A few skate sessions in late November

Here’s three days of skate sessions to begin my attempt at catching this blog up to speed…

Starting with a session in downtown Denver with Glen, Skelly and Mike.

Skelly’s line went like this:

Pretty awesome! Then there was this dude…

This session happened to be the same day as the Pretty Sweet premier. I took a few photos in the theater before the no-cell phone ban began…

The day before Thanksgiving it was seriously 80 degrees, sunny and beautiful. I met up with Ashlyn and friends for a bit and went to this spot…

Of course this happened:

Then on the Saturday (or Sunday?) after Thanksgiving it was down to about 25-30 degrees. But I braved the cold to have a little Southern Hills session with Glen, Ollie and Bernie.

Glen and Ollie worked on a father-son line…

… until Ollie decided Glen was taking too long to land his tricks, that is. Ha.

Playing catch up. Crisis missions, LifeBloodWizard tour in Colorado. Early July.

Saturday, July 7th.

Connor. tailslide biggie.

Sunday, July 8th.

bees (yellow jackets – are they actually wasps?) have been busting up a lot of sessions lately.

Glen suggested that Connor do this long, tall boardslide and with almost no prodding, Connor went for it. It took a little bit so I took quite a few photos… so bear with me…

Okay, time to move on. But seriously, good work Connor!

Justin, back 180

So… when I shot this next one I thought I had the perfect timing…
…but I guess that was it. Jack with a one-foot back 180 down the gap.

Blaine

Jack was about to attempt to jump over this…
…and so Blaine and I got ready to document him falling in the water. Unfortunately (maybe fortunate for Jack) he changed his mind at the last moment.

Monday, July 9th.

On the “party bus” to Northside in Fort Collins to check out the first LifeBloodWizard stop on their Colorado tour…

Jack got his own “party bus” shot.

Wednesday, July 11th.

Whew. In the middle of a wild week. By this day I was running on very little sleep, had just spent two awesome nights at Fuzz’s place where the Lifeblood and Bloodwizard dudes were camping out, skating as much as I could physically handle, and still fitting work in some how. We stopped at the bump to bar spot on the way to leading all those dudes to Northglenn park…

Frank. Rad dude.

After Northglenn we followed Taylor to the infamous Jerry’s ramp…

Saturday, July 14.

mid-June skate sessions

It’s been a long time since I’ve been slacking this hard – both in taking photos and in posting. So much so that I’m able to put almost a month’s worth (ehh or a week or so) of skate photos in one post. It’s about time that I started playing catch up, so here we go…

First couple are from a drive up to Fort Collins with Glen. It was pretty soon after the wildfire in Fort Collins broke out and I was trying to see if I could get a picture of the smoke…

We stopped by Market so Glen could sell some boards and then skated Northside. Just like every single other time we come to Fort Collins, we raved about how it’s the raddest skate scene around.

Next up, one Friday night I rode my bike up to Willville to meet Glen, Derek and Chad doing a little Null filming. Well, trying… as Glen put it on instagram “these dudes have not landed shit.” So no skate photos, but a few randos…

After that I decided, out of nowhere, to start jumping and ended surprisingly successful. And beat up. It happens sometimes.

Then next day I went out with the Crisis kids, although I really had no intention of doing much more than snapping photos. Just couldn’t recover quick enough from the night before. So we made our way to some old mini golf course in Denver. And seriously, this must have been the worst mini golf course ever…

(blaine always looks so stoked. ha!)

Then to the banks and the bank… ya know! The brick banks…

That night was the first time I’ve ever met Lloyd, a trick factory dude in town visiting from San Diego. The next day we planned a little trick factory skate adventure in his honor. Starting at Rock Creek. Yes! Rock Creek… finally back to skateable…

After that we made moves to Arvada. It was actually the first session that I had a lot of fun at Arvada and didn’t feel completely overwhelmed the whole time… so pretty awesome. We stayed til the lights went off and then made moves. Good times. It was nice to meet you Lloyd, and by the way, you rip!

Last round of photos for this post… first session on Go Skateboarding Day (June 21st). We were waiting for everyone to meet at Louisville park to pile on the bus and head to Fort Collins. So the question became… would you rather skate the park or 4 inch flat bar made from PVC pipe. Well, duhhh…

(sorry for posting a photo of you missing the trick Cameron, but I still like the photo anyways)

From there we headed north on the party bus to Northside park in Fort Collins. The scene there never disappoints. Everyone was shredding and we got to catch the Sunny Daze crew video premier. I also managed to accidentally steal Jack’s board (sorry mang!). But all’s well that ends well and we were all stoked on the party bus ride back home.

Playing catch up… (Denver with Crisis kids, start of my epic vacation)

Vacation! I made it to Snooze for breakfast with Chip and friends and it turned out to be the last time I saw Chip before he headed to North Carolina. Good times though. I may have been the only one sober at breakfast… party weekend. I brought a copy of 4 magazine to show the crew, had a bloody mary and a delicious breakfast, and then had to get moving…

After all my pre-trip errands, etc. I met up with the Crisis kids in Denver. We checked out some spots, and then Chris had to leave to go to work. I made a few more stops with the kiddos…

Connor kills it always. He was working on some blunts…to hurricane.teamwork.

Justin was shredding too…

Moving on. Connor’s been into this alley spot lately…

After that it was on to Fuzz and Leslie’s for one of the most fun BBQ parties they have ever hosted… which is truly saying a LOT. Everyone was in such a good mood, Rob was the surprise guest (!!) fresh from NYC, and I even managed to win $25 in dice. A perfect send off for the most epic road trip.

First weekend of spring break… skate adventures.

Friday. So incredibly beautiful. Too nice to do work or be inside… so off to meet Connor for a little skate session.

Connor, ollie

nollie shifty thingie

Then we met up with some other dudes and skated this Emerald school…

Justin, 5050

Justin, smith grind

Sean in the distance

Saturday started with the Commission’s High Noon Show Down (I think that’s what it was called) at a 3-block spot.

Some product toss photos…

After all that we hung out for a bit, checked out the Commission, and then went to a loading dock spot… to which I owe my incredibly sore legs (walking down stairs is still pretty difficult today) and that terribly nagging feeling of unfinished business. So moving on to a ledge spot…

Fun fun day. I was so beat. In fact, I didn’t even know if my legs would okay for walking the next day. But when Sunday came around, it was too much fun to just sit around. I met up with Glen, Dean and Jack, rode to Denver where we picked up Chad and met up with Rachel from the Springs. After the first spot, we moved downtown to the RTD station and Jack got a few things…

After this went down, our crew multiplied until we had about 30 people and skating turned into a powersliding contest until a cop, probably intimidated by the sheer number of people, yelled at us through a megaphone as he creeped by. We moved over to Tabor center, (where there was a total of 5 girls skating at one point… so random) and called it quits only after getting the boot. To end my 3-day mega skate weekend, I decided to upgrade from firecrackering 3 stairs to 6 stairs, which resulting in me diving from about the 3rd stair straight to the ground. Bloody hand and elbow… and a lot of laughter.

Off to Dean’s birthday BBQ.

Last Weekend in Boulder for 2011

Tomorrow I’m heading home to RI… can’t wait to see family and friends. and ocean. and stuff like that. But at least life here in Colorado still rules. Even in the cold.

On Saturday there was a purpose for our trip to Denver… but it turned into a super relaxed cruiser session through downtown.

Starting at this fountain/pool spot…

And now to this grated spot…

some weirdo photos…

Sunday was the White Elephant gift party. Delicious food, awesome crew of people. In fact, the party actually was a lot more fun, lively, upbeat than these photos would indicate. But seriously.

Seriously. Aah. well after a short day of work, longer day of cleaning, making pom poms and drinking wine… that’s all I got. I’ll be back in Colorado in the new year.

First Olympus film photos

When I was home in RI a few months ago, I snagged an old camera that was sitting around my parent’s house. It has been quite a challenge since then. The first roll of film I had no problem loading, but it wasn’t until the second roll that I learned how to properly rewind the film. As a result, I lost the majority of the photos… but came out with a few from a session back in early July at 18th and Welton.

Guess whose board?

crew photo

Glen. So stoked.

Blaine

I didn’t even recognize this photo at first, but Jack did. He was trying a wallride but clearly (well, not clearly at all) my timing… and everything else… was a little off.

So, not too shabby. I was hoping the mold on the lens would produce some more interesting results, but I guess I should be happy it didn’t. Hopefully I’ll have more photos from this camera… if I can figure out why the camera is completely locked up right now.
