Fort Collins with the Lowcard CrownVic

Just like every trip to Fort Collins, this day was SO much fun. In general, I’ve been slacking on taking photos, so I might actually have to write a little to explain what’s been going on. My semester ended Friday, May 10th, and it turned my weekdays into 14-15 hour works days towards the end. But once I turned in my 75 page final project (after taking a 7-hour final for the same class), I was done. Odessa and I did happy hour in North Boulder, visited her garden plot, played one of the best dart games ever, and met up with a crew, including Freddy visiting from SF at the Waterloo.

The weekend already was off to a good start when Jack and I met up with Fuzz, Freddy, John, and Darrin at Crisis, and made our way to the new Thornton park for a super kook-filled session. After some food, we had a short Northglenn session before heading to Fuzz and Leslie’s for a night of BBQ, cornhole, and backyard camping. When we got there, the Lowcard crown vic had arrived, with Magnethead, Dan Nazzareta, and Cousins aka Avocado Man. Super fun night.

So that brings us to Sunday and the Fort Collins adventure. Sleeping in a tent doesn’t usually encourage sleeping in too late, and I’m pretty sure we were on the road by 9am, with only a quick stop at Jus Burritos for breakfast. We met up with Taylor, our guide for the day, at the newest of the 5 parks in Fort Collins, Water Way. For the most part, I skated the whole time, but snapped just a couple photos…

After Water Way, Taylor took us to the full pipes. My first time there…DSC_0132_edit_resized DSC_0134_edit_resized DSC_0144_edit_resized DSC_0146_edit_resized DSC_0149_edit_resized DSC_0150_edit_resized DSC_0152_edit_resized

Next up was Spring Canyon, where I finally sat back and took photos instead of skating. The Fort crew definitely knows how to shred a bowl…DSC_0156_edit_resized DSC_0158_edit_resized DSC_0159_edit_resized DSC_0160_edit_resized DSC_0161_edit_resized DSC_0168_edit_resized DSC_0170_edit_resized DSC_0173_edit_resized DSC_0176_edit_resized DSC_0177_edit_resized DSC_0179_edit_resized DSC_0180_edit_resized DSC_0185_edit_resized DSC_0187_edit_resized

We took a break to visit Market, eat lunch, and then a session went down on this front porch quarter pipe…DSC_0188_edit_resized DSC_0189_edit_resized DSC_0190_edit_resized DSC_0194_edit_resized DSC_0196_edit_resized DSC_0197_edit_resized DSC_0198_edit_resized DSC_0199_edit_resized DSC_0201_edit_resized DSC_0203_edit_resized DSC_0207_edit_resized DSC_0213_edit_resized DSC_0217_edit_resized DSC_0219_edit_resized DSC_0229_edit_resized DSC_0230_edit_resized DSC_0232_edit_resized DSC_0239_edit_resized DSC_0240_edit_resized DSC_0243_edit_resized DSC_0245_edit_resized DSC_0249_edit_resized DSC_0251_edit_resized DSC_0254_edit_resized DSC_0256_edit_resized DSC_0257_edit_resized DSC_0259_edit_resized

And that’s when we left the house decided to be the worst/dirtiest skate house ever. Congrats guys! We made our way to Edora after that, and then finally to Northside to skate until the sun went down. I stopped taking photos and just skated, so no more images to show. Such an awesome day. We camped in Fuzz’s backyard again this night, and then had another amazing day the following day, with a long session at Roxborough and a night session at Arvada. So rad! Thanks to everyone involved for making it such an awesome weekend!

mid-June skate sessions

It’s been a long time since I’ve been slacking this hard – both in taking photos and in posting. So much so that I’m able to put almost a month’s worth (ehh or a week or so) of skate photos in one post. It’s about time that I started playing catch up, so here we go…

First couple are from a drive up to Fort Collins with Glen. It was pretty soon after the wildfire in Fort Collins broke out and I was trying to see if I could get a picture of the smoke…

We stopped by Market so Glen could sell some boards and then skated Northside. Just like every single other time we come to Fort Collins, we raved about how it’s the raddest skate scene around.

Next up, one Friday night I rode my bike up to Willville to meet Glen, Derek and Chad doing a little Null filming. Well, trying… as Glen put it on instagram “these dudes have not landed shit.” So no skate photos, but a few randos…

After that I decided, out of nowhere, to start jumping and ended surprisingly successful. And beat up. It happens sometimes.

Then next day I went out with the Crisis kids, although I really had no intention of doing much more than snapping photos. Just couldn’t recover quick enough from the night before. So we made our way to some old mini golf course in Denver. And seriously, this must have been the worst mini golf course ever…

(blaine always looks so stoked. ha!)

Then to the banks and the bank… ya know! The brick banks…

That night was the first time I’ve ever met Lloyd, a trick factory dude in town visiting from San Diego. The next day we planned a little trick factory skate adventure in his honor. Starting at Rock Creek. Yes! Rock Creek… finally back to skateable…

After that we made moves to Arvada. It was actually the first session that I had a lot of fun at Arvada and didn’t feel completely overwhelmed the whole time… so pretty awesome. We stayed til the lights went off and then made moves. Good times. It was nice to meet you Lloyd, and by the way, you rip!

Last round of photos for this post… first session on Go Skateboarding Day (June 21st). We were waiting for everyone to meet at Louisville park to pile on the bus and head to Fort Collins. So the question became… would you rather skate the park or 4 inch flat bar made from PVC pipe. Well, duhhh…

(sorry for posting a photo of you missing the trick Cameron, but I still like the photo anyways)

From there we headed north on the party bus to Northside park in Fort Collins. The scene there never disappoints. Everyone was shredding and we got to catch the Sunny Daze crew video premier. I also managed to accidentally steal Jack’s board (sorry mang!). But all’s well that ends well and we were all stoked on the party bus ride back home.

Friday morning sunrise session in Ft Collins

A super early morning. After a few texts and phone calls, Jack actually woke up and answered his phone before 6am. Rad. We were still late to meet up with the crew (sorry, guys) but were able to head up north following Fuzz in his new (for him) car. It was a mix between an old dudes and Crisis kiddies sesh. So awesome.

Jack took some photos on the drive up…

(i think the crooked photos might have been taken by me while driving)

Well that’s enough of driving pics. Or far too many! Ha, I love them… thanks Jack! So, we finally arrived in Ft Collins and it was a wonderful 37 degrees. Time to get warmed up! Northside session…

Even though Northside is amazing, I guess the plan was to make moves to Spring Canyon to get the most of our time in Ft Collins. I was a little sad because I spent a lot of my time at Northside taking photos instead of skating (oops), but Spring Canyon was a blast so it was all good. So here are those photos…

John carving over the coffin

(I was recently called out in Lowcard for taking out of focus photos, so I just want to point out that he is, in fact, out of focus. Ha)

Here’s one (with a grind) that’s in focus:

Team drop-ins before we hit the road…

Kyle got soaked from slipping out into the wet grass. But I still convinced him to do another one for a better angle…

So rad.

Good times. Ft Collins rules. We stopped by Market to drop a few Null items off and then headed back to Crisis for some pizza. Sunrise session success!

Sunday – Missions in the Fort

On Sunday we rolled up north with a 3-car-deep crew. I stuck mostly to skating the entire time (hopefully making up for my skate performance on beautiful Saturday), but did pull out my camera at one point (along with the 4 or 5 other cameras amongst our crew) to get Max doing some big stuff. So, for this post, Dean Barnes was kind enough to send me some photos to illustrate our adventures. Here goes…

After a stop at Market, my car load ventured to Northside to wait up for Glen and crew. They came and met us and we skated the park in some super windy conditions for awhile.

Me! (It took a little bit to get warmed up when the wind was blowing… this photo was clearly early on before I got moving)

Derek and Aaron

Neil has the best no-comply. Hands down. So rad.

Derek was killing it. Nose manual up to back tail !?! silly.

Then we moved along to the spot for Max…

I almost don’t want to put in the photos I took… just for them to sit on this post in a sad comparison to Dean’s amazing photos, but whatever (enough self-criticism). Here are mine…

Back to Dean’s photos…

Max rules. I feel bad for laughing at the footy… but the irony of how it was filmed. Sorry for laughing Glen!

Up next, bump spot on campus. I tried to skate it faster than usual and so, especially with the wind, I just failed at everything I tried. Which was only kickflips for hours or however long we were there. Such a bummer. Luckily, everyone else rips…

… especially Jack. You totally had this dude! So wild.

Derek, chillin.

Tricks got landed and the wind kept up, so we headed back home. The one thing I regret is not getting a photo of Jack’s sweet stickering revenge on me. I thought I was soooo clever when I found a little zumiez sticker on the back of my car almost immediately. Little did I know that I drove from Fort Collins to Longmont to Lyons to Boulder before I finally found a huge Hubba sticker on the middle of the hood of my car. Thanks Jack!

Also big thanks to Dean for all the beautiful photos that put all my photos to shame. Someday maybe I’ll learn a thing or two about photography! But in the meantime, I still love taking ghetto photos of everything I see… and the raddest people I roll with. Thanks to the crew… it was a good day.

Halloween skate jam – Northside, Fort Collins

MRKT held a Halloween skate jam at Northside on Saturday. I went up with Lazer, Neil and Brian around midday. It was my first time skating in a dress (couldn’t fall all day), and I had my brand new camera to shoot some photos! I’m having some issues with uploading photos from my new memory card, so I’m limited to what I can show right now (or crop and edit)… but here’s some from the day:

So good. I feel like I’m adjusting back to my camera, but its all good. I honestly spent most of my time trying to skate and not playing around with the camera. I almost got a wall ride along the brick wall from one wooden ramp to another… but quit after realizing my front truck was about to fall off (again). Spent the rest of the time skating the ledge in the corner… my usual spot when I feel totally overwhelmed at Northside.

Once it got dark we grabbed some slices of pizza at Surfside and checked out the zombies… the entire town was dressed as zombies! So wild. Then Lazer’s birthday party and an early night for me so I could get ready for a stream ecology field study. Oh yea.

Slacking Hard

I feel like I’ve been M.I.A. for awhile now. Actually right now feels like the first time I’ve been able to breathe all week. Life is starting to catch up with me and it’s been a crazy week. So here’s a quick week or so in review:

The furthest back I remember not writing about was my trip to Ft. Collins last Wednesday. So good. I met up with Glen and Bernie in Longmont (holding them up a good half hour to an hour… oops), then Glen drove us up to Market to drop off some boards. It was already getting dark so we skated campus spots the whole time… with a big crew we picked up at Market. I ollied up a 2-stair for the first time (a nice small one) and cracked my head trying to ride down a 3 flat 2 flat 2flat 2flat flllaaatt 2 flat 2 flat 2 flat 2 flat 4. Besides that it was just an epic session. Glen has all the fun skate stats as always.

Hmm.. then back to the daily grind (I’m teaching 3 days a week right now and my 3 grad classes are taking a beating on me)… until Friday. It was Fuzz’s opening day for Crisis, so after teaching a full day and then a quick recoup break and some laundry, I went up to chill at the shop and then skate Broomfield with Brian. After, I chilled at Glen’s place, drank a beer and watched the final touches to the Captain Chaos cape go down. Then a little catch-phrase at Chip’s place and finally went to sleep without an alarm set.

Next morning I was running late as always, grabbed some shoes at Meta and met up with the boys for yet another Saturday skate adventure. Again Glen has the details. I spent most of my time setting up my board, trying to adjust to new shoes and getting psyched for the Crisis Opening Party. A few of my school people showed! So rad! The party was rad, and the after party was so good. Slumber party at Fuzz’s, then back to the grind.

And now here I am. Friday afternoon, burnt from the week, aching to skate. Too early to say it, but I’m already psyched for my week off for Thanksgiving. Just need to survive until then…

Forgotten Day Trip to the Fort

After my last post, I remembered that I never wrote about my last day trip to Fort Collins. Similar story… drove up with Glen and Fuzz to drop some boards off at Market. It was probably about 95 degrees or hotter, just like my recent trip. We met up with Chris and Skelly, and stuck to street skating for the day.

First spot of the day…
Chris
Fuzz
Glen
Skelly
That was most of the photos I took for the day. While everyone else skated the spot like a ledge, I just went for wallie over it. So much fun. We moved to an alley spot where it took me probably an hour to get a wall ride, while the guys skated some super tall ledges. Then to a spot by a gas station with a bank and a jersey barrier wall ride thing at the bottom. We stuck around here until we all got kickflips into the bank. Then to campus, were we spent most of our time skating a spot with a rad little bump off the sidewalk and some rocks. I broke my board trying to kickflip, but was still trying to land the trick. So I went for it with the broken board and landed it right away. Sweet. Then we basically went back to all the spots we were at before, the first spot, the bank jersey barrier spot, and then back to the bump so Fuzz could get some action…
Once it got too dark to skate, we headed to surfside for calzones and beers. Skelly and Susan came to meet us. Fun times, as always. Then back to Boulder.

Day Trip to Fort Collins

The last weekend before classes start. Summer flew by more quickly then ever and sadly enough, I spent the far majority of it on campus anyways. Now Boulder is packed with all the students back in town, although I did manage two free lunches because of all the orientation activities, including an amazing multi-cultural lunch on Farrand field with my labmates. The vegetable curry pie and the ice cream in pastry dough were my favorites. Yum. When I got off work I was on a mission to skate, and both Neil and Glen wanted to skate early just for a little bit. Glen landed a double kickflip while waiting for Neil, and then we skated some spots around the edge of campus.

After skating I met up with my friend Mike to go hiking. We started late and by the top we got to the top of the trail it was dark, besides the light from the moon. On the way down, we picked a steep gnarly trail. Perfect for hiking in the dark. There were moments when I didn’t know if I was even on a trail and the moon’s light was blocked by a ride. Somehow we survived the hike, even Mike with a broken sandal, and strolled through the open fields back to his car. Yet again, another epic Boulder hike.

Next morning I was anxiously awaiting hearing from Glen because he was going to head up to Market in Fort Collins. I get so psyched to skate Fort Collins or Denver, or really anywhere far enough away that I wouldn’t go by myself. We met up with Chris and headed over to Northside. Then it was off to a street spot… by a train.

Once the train passed, Chris went for the craziest gap…
After a few tries, it was time to move on.
We hit up Pizza Casbah for some delicious slices, and then Glen, Mike, and I headed over to Edora. It was my first time at the park and everything was so crazy that I felt like I had to be super cautious. The locals there kill it.
Then we headed home since Glen had a father-son double skate date to attend. I chilled at Meta for a bit with Lazer and Yabo, then picked up Jason to go skate Broomfield. On the way, I saw the closest thing to a Boulder sunset…
I got home probably around midnight and headed down to Pearl to meet up with Chip. On my way home, a random guy walked by me and slipped a flower in my hair. Pretty sweet actually.
Glad I took a photo of it when I got home, because I woke up the next morning to see it dead and withered up. Oh well. One more day left of my summer.
