Mini Hike in Fort Collins and a Squirrel

Awhile back, Jack and I made a trip up to Fort Collins to drop of some Null boards. On the way up we found this…

jack and the giant ramp thinghad to see it from the topWe fantasized about the truck being closer and skating from the top of the truck into this giant ramp thing. Unfortunately it was meant for a car dealership to display cars and was built purposely to not allow wheels to roll down it.

Jack wasn’t feeling like skating and I wasn’t too keen on driving straight up and back, so we ended up going on a mini hike before heading back to Boulder…

First droid cell phone photo dump

It might be embarassing to admit, but I couldn’t handle being left out of the world of instagram any longer. And with my new job and new salary, it was time to go back to a smart phone. I wanted to get an iphone, but the annoying sales guy at verizon was very insistent on a particular droid (possibly for some commission or store incentive type reason). Either way, I wasn’t in the mood to argue – as long as I could join into the world of instaglam that night.. it was on.

So it was probably around mid-July that I got my new phone. One thing that sucked is that I had to get a new number.  If you are still trying to contact me on my old phone/number, please stop! While it is still on technically, I rarely look at it and really only use my new phone.

Well, so here we go with photos.

It might be hard to see in these photos, but wallace is trying to capture the laser pointer’s red dot – such a fun game, never gets old.

Furry friends faces

I’ve been stressing super hard on getting my final project finished for my class. Well, sort of. Not total panic mode, but I just never really got into it so it’s been a long drawn out process of not quite the most efficient days filled with sitting in front of my computer and a stack of papers. This weekend was the final stretch and mid-torment on what could have been an otherwise enjoyable Saturday afternoon, Odessa sent me an email entitled “study break” with these adorable pictures of my lovely furry friends…

Love em. In the end I did manage to fit in a relatively quick skate break, filmed a line (woo), and got to see lots of awesome people later in the night. Not the worst Saturday ever. And tomorrow it will be over, just another semester in my eternal life as a student.

Just another Monday night at home (pizza, etc.)

After a productive morning and afternoon, Odessa convinced me to go to the store… turning into a mission to make pizza complemented with beer, wine, and even flavored vodka drinks. Jack came over to help make pizza (well, that part was a surprise), drink beer and document our (epico? epopea?) night via photos on my camera.

First thing first… in a search for flour (of which I found out that I brought 3 bags from my last apartment), we discovered we have an absurd amount of sugar…

Sweeeet.

Our first (of 3) pizza was a success…Pizza numero uno. Simple, delicious.

Then some nerding out with the cats…Groms loving life

Wallace

Wallace… at his cutest moment.

Oh, and Wallace in his version of a cardboard box home

Then the night got a little trippy……. jusssss kiddin’ (well minus the movie choice for the night, but yea). Just staying hydrated so I’d be good for teaching bright n’ early the next day… woo! Fun times.

Happy belated to my little ones…

So not to sound like a crazy cat lady or anything, but I have to make a post dedicated to my kitties because yesterday was Wallace and Grommit’s 5th birthday. Unfortunatley I completely forgot, but I think it’s more fitting that I remembered today since it was exactly 5 years ago today that I first laid eyes on these two. And since then, they’ve lived in many different apartments around Baltimore, spent a year on the farm in Rhode Island and have already lived in three different homes in Colorado. Adventurous cats… although not by choice.

Here’s them way back when….

the above photo was taken on their first trip to the vet. They were underweight and had numerous issues. I left with about 4 different types of medicine and a promise from the vet that it would be a good bonding experience.

A few years ago, a little more grown up…

Now its pretty rare that they ever spend time together… Grommit spends almost all her time elsewhere and Wallace spends most of his time driving me crazy. But I suppose I should treat him a little better since I guess he might as well be my “valentine” – the only “man” I can keep around. ha. Anyways, today Grommit happened to come home for a visit so I got a few shots of the two…

sibling rivalry at its ultimate… they were next to each other for a split second before drama ensued.

Love these two. Even if my life is covered in cat hair.

Welcome to November

I knew that shit would hit the fan in November. And it came like clockwork. November 1st – my life feels like it got turned upside down. I think in a positive way, but I have so much to do and feel each day is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I doubt myself but gain reassurance just about every day. I work all day long and feel like I accomplish nothing… and let my groups down just like last year. An yet, the small victories and goals keep me moving…
So nothing too great, but some photos from the week.

Some shots from in the classroom (valve activity):

And that’s that. Wednesday and Friday were my last days with the 8 7th grade classes I’ve been working with. The kids are so amazing. I will definitely miss them.

The rest of Friday I meant to do work before the Toy Machine premier. I tried a little bit, as I hung out with Fuzz at Crisis. But the weather was unbelievable. 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky in November. Aah. So I skated the Broomfield park for a few hours with some of the Crisis kids. It took me awhile to warm up, but eventually got going. Landed my 4th ever front shuv and my 3rd ever manual on the blue manual pad… perfectly clean. Then just the usual, some bowl skating, front d on the brick quarter, pop shuv down the double set, etc. The scene at the park was rad.

Back to Crisis to grab Fuzz and Neil, then to Denver for a downtown session. SO good. We only had an hour and it was the most quality hour of street skating ever I think. I finally got the 4 flat 4. We rolled up with an alarm going off on the side of the building (probably cause Neil and Fuzz skated the marble manny on the other side), so I went for it as quick as I could with traffic coming. And finally, success.

And I finally got to skate the jersey barriers that have been a mini-buzz lately. They’re creted into quarter pipes basically. After some encouragement from Fuzz (who launched out, 180′d out and (melon?) grabbed out… along with a ton of crazy disaster variations), I launched out in to the sidewalk, followed by Neil (who also had front 5-0 slashers down before we left). Gnarly gnarly gnarly.

Then to the premier. Honestly, my night ended with me all bummed out, but just knowing that my friends were there to pick me up when I fell down made it all the better. How can I feel shitty when I have the raddest friends ever?

Missing my camera…. and random life.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I am really missing my camera. I haven’t gotten any more updates from the Geek Squad and the 2 weeks period that the guy at Best Buy said it would take has come and gone already. I’ve tried not to whine and cry about it, as best as possible, and instead, have been using my phone camera more than usual. Here’s some random bad quality photos to fill some space…

My friend Meagan’s dad built a flipflop tree when we were kids. Looked very similar, but all flipflops that were found on the beach or our old pairs. I was psyched to notice this on my walk.

Business Deals
After skating Broomfield on Tuesday with Glen, we stopped by Fuzz’s house for some Null/Crisis business deals… (excuse the extremely super crappy photos, the blackberry does not operate well when there’s not a lot of light)
Fuzz proceeded to accidently dump the entire box of clothes on the floor immediately after the deal went down. Maybe just one of those “you had to be there” moments
My “Children”
Wallace is obsessed with this plant. Hope my neighbors aren’t upset that he snacks on it everyday.
Grommit. Doing her thing.
Marlys
I had a relatively unique opportunity yesterday to meet a woman who’s been through a lot in her life. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May and is currently half way through her chemo treatments. She came close to not making it through, but is alive and fighting. I was overwhelmed by how friendly, open, and outgoing she is. She takes a water color painting class at Naropa as part of her therapy. Here’s her painting from yesterday, which I think shows her creativity…

Lulu Feeding

One of the craziest pet combos I can think of is our new arrangement… my two cats and LP’s snake Lulu. I was super worried for so long that my cats would attack Lulu or Lulu would suffocate them both, but so far, not the case. The cats spent a few minutes staring at her in her cage and then were over it. But the other day was a BIG day. It was feeding day!

What a show! I thought the cats would be as intrigued as I was… boy, was I wrong.

For the fact that I was watching one animal kill and eat another one, it was incredibly calm and peaceful. No blood, guts, or curtling screams. Nothing of the sort.
