Almost spring skate sessions

The first set of photos is actually just a Sunday lurk mission. Skating was our intention, but it was crazy windy and Jack and I aren’t big fans of the wind. So we went on a mission to find wonderful spots that Jason had described to us. And took a lovely little walk in the process…colorful colorado

The ditch turned out to be quite an interesting adventure. Maybe skate it some day? I have a feeling Jack will be on that.

The next session was on warm Wednesday a few days after the lurking in the ditch. I met up with Jack and crew in Longmont and watched Cameron and Josh skate a flat gap. Afterwards I played around the 2 flat 2 at the spot, and then Jack and I had a short session at the Longmont ditch. So rad…

Despite how nice and warm that Wednesday was, it was snowing by the weekend. Oh, Colorado weather. Even though it was snowing and freezing cold and terrible weather for skating, Glen said he was skating a parking garage with Neil and Brett and Jack convinced me to come skate. It was fun (besides my frustration fits for the day) and wan’t too bitter cold in the garage.

The very next day was warm and completely dry (typical Colorado) and I had the honor of tagging along with some of the Meta crew for awhile. I stuck to taking photos while Jack and Josh skated the spots, Cameron filmed, and Sean chilled…

The following Friday, Jack and i talked about going somewhere new and different than the usual places. So we ended up driving out to Ft. Morgan to skate a metal mini ramp at the park and then this awesome spot…

DSC_0470_edit_resized DSC_0477_edit_resized

After this fun spot in Ft Morgan we drove back past the disgusting smelling sugar factory and two depressing feedlots with endless black and white cows filling the air with waves of cow shit odors, saw the sky glaring red from a wild fire in the distance, and eventually made our way to Brighton, where we stumbled upon the best street pole jam imaginable. Jack took some photos of me and filmed one, and then we headed to Crisis to celebrate our long day.

And the last session for this post was from just a few days ago on Wednesday. I had a midterm the next day so didn’t want to leave Boulder, but it was supposed to be the last nice day before an early spring snow storm. So Jack and I headed to this spot…

DSC_0488_edit_resized DSC_0492_edit_resized DSC_0502_edit_resizedAfter Jack took some photos of my backside ollies, I started trying to learn hurricanes. Jack joined in, crushing some switch hurricanes. Fun times…

And that’s all! For more photos of me actually skating (I swear I’m not always behind the camera) you gotta check out Jack’s blog.

Birds and sunset, Coco’s visit, skating Boulder spots, Wallace and Grom’s Birthday, Pueblo trip

Sometimes I bring my camera to skate sessions thinking I might take some skate photos. Instead, I actually skate the whole time and only pull my camera out for something like this…DSC_0017_edit_resized DSC_0018_edit_resized DSC_0019_edit_resized DSC_0021_edit_resized DSC_0023_edit_resized

One Saturday, Coco came to visit!

So much fun!

Jack and I have had some short Boulder skate sessions before the sun goes down (can’t wait for daylight savings to be over). Here’s some photos of Jack…

Poor kitties. They hated every minute of this… but 7 years! Getting old (sort of).

Last weekend I headed down to Pueblo with the Nullers to avoid the snow up here in Northern Colorado. It was a long, super fun day. I took a few photos…

the crew at the end of this adventure

Winter Vacation on the East Coast

The day after Christmas I went out to lunch with my dad and some of his friends. Of course the dogs came for the ride…

Pretty awesome dogs.

Later I met up with Liz and headed down to the Mist with Molly, Ali and JC. We met up with the rest of the crew there. Yay for wing night at the Ocean Mist.

The next few shots are my attempts of taking photos of the ocean from inside. It was insanely windy and raining and just not quite nice enough to be out on the back deck…

That night we all crashed at the Hawksley’s, and ironically Molly and Luke were the only two that had to get up and go to work. The rest of us (Liz, Ali, JC, Chip, Amelia, and I) took a tour of the beach (RCB) and then had an indulgent breakfast/lunch at Chen’s. First thing first, checking out the destruction from Hurricane Sandy…

After our beach adventure in the mist, slight rain, and cold, we headed to Wakefield for a meal at Chen’s. I love Chen’s so much, and going there with Liz is absolutely the best thing ever. And drinking scorpion bowls. And eating their delicious food. So perfect for this dark, damp day.

The rest of that day was pretty mellow – had to be after eating the amount of food that we ate (unfortunately not shown in these pictures), but that night I went to visit friends from all the way back to elementary school, Amy and Polly. It was a super fun “girls night” type night – drinks, tacos, and chips while I caught up with Amy and Polly and friends. Really, really good time and so happy to have friends that I’m able to catch up with so quickly after not seeing each other for years.

The next morning I hopped on the commuter rail in Wickford, RI and headed up to the Back Bay station in Boston to meet my cousin Daria. We went to the Mario Testino exhibit “In Your Face” at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and then got some lunch, before I hopped back on the commuter rail home. Really cool trip. Some photos on the train, and random ones on the streets in Boston…

That guy was a great addition to all that I saw in Boston. He sailed down that street probably 10 times while we had lunch. I made it back to Wickford on the commuter rail, and my parents picked me up and took me out for a delicious dinner. We went to a local restaurant that uses almost all their ingredients from local farms and companies. I love this so much – wish more of our food industry was like that.

Then the next day I took off to Brooklyn, NY to visit my friend Leigh, who I hadn’t seen in 6 years! It was her birthday, so I went down to “party” for the night and catch up with her. It was supposed to be a big snow storm, but I got lucky and the drive really wasn’t so bad. I met up with Leigh just as she was getting off work…

Such a fun night. Hanging out with Leigh was so great, and her friends were all awesome and super nice to me. I played pool for the majority of the night and just was generally excited about the idea of being out in NYC. And out in the bars til 4am. Woo! Ha. The next morning (late morning, we’ll say), Leigh and I went out for brunch. Then I said my goodbyes to her and Penelope and headed back to RI…

And that’s pretty much that. I made it home in time to get some Kingston Pizza (yum!!) and eat it with my parents while watching the end of the New England Patriots game. Then a little more tv-watching (since I don’t have that at my place in Colorado) and then packing. The next morning my mom drove me to the airport and I was headed back to Colorado. Such an amazing time at home. Thank you to everyone who made my trip back east such a great adventure!

A few skate sessions in late November

Here’s three days of skate sessions to begin my attempt at catching this blog up to speed…

Starting with a session in downtown Denver with Glen, Skelly and Mike.

Skelly’s line went like this:

Pretty awesome! Then there was this dude…

This session happened to be the same day as the Pretty Sweet premier. I took a few photos in the theater before the no-cell phone ban began…

The day before Thanksgiving it was seriously 80 degrees, sunny and beautiful. I met up with Ashlyn and friends for a bit and went to this spot…

Of course this happened:

Then on the Saturday (or Sunday?) after Thanksgiving it was down to about 25-30 degrees. But I braved the cold to have a little Southern Hills session with Glen, Ollie and Bernie.

Glen and Ollie worked on a father-son line…

… until Ollie decided Glen was taking too long to land his tricks, that is. Ha.

yay for self timer. all 3 of us

A lot of plaid and Figgy our (we wish) shop cat

One day, Jack and I went to hang out with Fuzz at Crisis. Pretty standard. We realized we were all wearing plaid. This reminded of us Gordan and PlaidAgain. So, we made a little sign and did a photo shoot dedicated to our pal Gordo…

Fun self-timer photo shoot.

After that I found a piece of an old board that I left at Crisis by accident…

(It originally said “Hey what’s Null?… Oh nothing HEAVY”, but someone moved the HEAVY sticker over the Null. Ha)

On this particular night, our (hopeful) “shop cat” Figgy returned. We met Figgy one night back in August and instantly, Fuzz, Jack and I fell hopelessly and madly in love with this cat. He is amazing. I named him Figgy because he looks the Figaro, the cat in Pinnochio. So if you’re not a big fan of cats or cat photos, you might as well stop looking at this post right here.

We bought him food last time we saw him, and still had a can left. So yes, we fed him… anything to convince him that hanging out with us is awesome and that he should totally be our shop cat.

Eventually it got so late that we had to send Figgy off on his way home, wherever that may be. We love you Figgy! (be our shop cat!!)

Halloween 2012

Halloween! I originally wasn’t that into Halloween this year, especially with it falling on a Wednesday. But Odessa had a good idea for costumes (one that was pretty popular this idea, from what I saw) and she insisted that I fro out my hair. So we got to work on our costumes as soon as we got home from campus that day. And if you know me, you might not believe it, but I was actually the first one ready…

Once we had taken enough photos at home, we headed over to Anna’s house because it was her birthday!!! Woo! A quick stop at Cosmos, and then Anna’s…

They have a balance board at Anna’s, which I decided would be good to ride with heels (I’m full a smart ideas)…

Then we ventured down to the Goose for a drink…

Odessa and I made head start downtown, got some specialty drinks at the West End Tavern, including a blood smoothie, and met up with Odessa’s friend Jane, an owl for the night.

Then a 6-pack of corona ran by…

…at the time I took this photo I had no idea that I actually know at least half of these dudes. I was pretty surprised when I looked through my photos a few days later and realized.

Odessa and I ventured over to Catacombs where we first saw Jess and Kristen, and later met up with Chip, Anna, Brittany, Lord, Matt Goldberg and a few others…

That was about it. Odessa and I walked home after a little bit longer, while I think the rest of the crew went to the Attic.

I took just a couple of last photos right before I washed all the makeup off my face…

…then it was time for sleep.

front noseslide #2

Second half of October. skating, pumpkins, pho, video premier, water park

On a Saturday in mid October, Glen and I made our way to campus to skate around. Before we got moving, though, I had him take some photos of me using the new skateboard racks outside of the ITLL, the building I work in. The building is trying to prevent students from having skateboards in the building (especially long boards) due to ADA reasons. Not too many students are aware of the racks or know how to use them – hence the photos. This one was actually used for a sign that’s up now:

Yup. I’ll have to take a picture of the end result. The racks are kinda cool, though, you just slide your board in between the bars, then put a lock between the upper and lower rings. Works perfectly unless someone has a skate tool to take your trucks off with.

Then Glen and I took on kickflipping the tiniest (yet still “gnarly” – ha!) gap ever…

(ouch)

We moved on from that spot, and met up with Jack, Neil, Blake and Alec.

Jack has some beautiful-looking front noses…

(there might be one more popping up on the null site…)

That night Brian and Denise had a pumpkin carving party (a few photos will appear in an upcoming cell phone dump post). I meant to carve both sides of my pumpkin (with a combination of Jack’s and my drawing skills) but only did one in the end. Odessa had this awesome cat (I think?) on her pumpkin from a different pumpkin carving party. Unfortunately I didn’t take a photo of them intact, only after Peter (our pumpkin-eating squirrel) chowed down on them, well, mostly on Odessa’s.

(oh yea, that’s Peter!)

One Saturday, Jack and I made our second stop along our mission to try ever pho place around. This time it was Black Pepper Pho. I was so excited that I forgot to take photos until I was almost done with this deliciousness.

Thanks Jack!! You rule. (And hope this wasn’t the source of your food poisoning.)

Then next day I met up with Connor and Blaine to skate in Denver, and then later we met up with Glen, Jason, and Fuzz. Jason picked this spot…

Glen, Fuzz, Jason, Dave Fuller, Chris Sessions and I went to see the Bones Brigade documentary at the Esquire in Denver…

Another night, before bowling, Jack and I were on a hunt for a spot to take a photo of the moon. It was huge and orange… and just looked so cool. So we found the highest point, and by then the moon was blocked by clouds…

So instead, we discovered a water park…

Always up for an adventure.

Jack and I headed up to Breckenridge a few weeks ago… a Saturday in mid October. We had a pretty mellow Saturday night, involving Empire Burger and chilling in the hot tub.

Sunday we started the day with a scoping skate spots. I don’t have any photos of the first spot (well three or four spots in one type of spot), because I did a little filming with Jack’s camera when I wasn’t the one skating. The next two photos are my only evidence…

But after a second trip to Empire Burger, I got a few photos…

We returned to spot lurking and came upon this massive gap. I think it deserves a few photos… (no skating photos, though, because filming took precedence)

After some filming fun at that gap, we went back to spot searching and found a nice little gap for me (ha!) that Jack still had some fun with. As soon as we were done, a fox randomly popped up and started roaming around…

We left the fox… or really, I think the fox left us. So we roamed around a bit more, then snapped some photos before going back to chill…

We hung out for a bit, playing dice and waiting for Matt Warner and his friend Nate to arrive.

Then we went to some bar that during the “off-season” had free pool and pinball.

That was about if for the night… minus the 3am trip to 7-eleven because we waited far too late to get food and that was the only option we came up with after starting to look around 12:30am.

The next day we headed out to Frisco to skate a spot Jack had unfinished business with. First the “warm-up section”:

Then the real deal:

Chip showed up and cruised around on my board…

Once we finished at this spot, I brought up the idea to search for the full pipe in Leadville, yet again. This time we had a little bit more direction because Matt hit up Skelly who told us which lake it was at. A little google map action and we were on our way.

First we just scoped out Leadville and found an awesome pizza place to eat…

Next up, full pipe searching once again…

Regardless, another unsuccessful yet fun adventure searching for a full pipe.

The next morning we took a ton of photos on the way out of Breckenridge and back towards Boulder…

Then home to Boulder!

hi jack!

cell phone dump (Denver Art Museum, skee ball, dice, darts and more)

The cell phone pics I took at the Denver Art Museum trip I took with Odessa on Free First Saturday in October…

At the Mile High Horror Film Festival later that night…

We saw a Canadian comedy… it was awesome. Funny, a little gory… perfect.

Back at home with this guy…

The day Jack, Xander and I went to play mini golf. Oh yea. We drank a bunch and then took the SKIP to North Boulder…

Mini golf was worth photographing… although it was awesome, but I did get some skee ball pics after we finished our put put game.

Jack and I made a Null delivery to Crisis one Tuesday night…

Glen usually wants a photo of the delivery, so I tried to see if I could get all three of us and the Null swag in one photo. Ha. Didn’t work too well…

Then we went on a mission to get pool coping for rampy and then met Glen and Jake to skate downtown Denver. We ended up at 18th and Welton the whole time (not much for cruisin around) but I had so much fun. And Fuzz, well, he ended up at the bar…

After that skate mission, Jack and I ended up back at Crisis for some beers, dice, and welcoming in Jack’s birthday once the midnight hour struck.

Killing time in Target, taking photos of this ridiculous book…

Friday night, hanging with the newly weds…

And then, about to leave on an adventure…
