Arvada Skateshop Appreciation and Foundation Spot

Saturday was the Square State Skate’s Skateshop Appreciation Day at Arvada Park. I got there about halfway through and mixed some skating with taking some photos. There were a series of best trick contest on different obstacles, and I only caught three of them in photos…DSC_0268_edit_resized DSC_0269_edit_resized DSC_0276_edit_resized DSC_0280_edit_resized DSC_0283_edit_resized DSC_0286_edit_resized

After the stairs/rail challenge, there was the snake run challenge, and I wish I had some photos of that to show… always so awesome to watch people skate that thing. Can’t wait til next week’s King of the Snake Run. Fun times, though, and super big thanks to Brian and Neil at Square State Skate and everyone that’s involved with the core shops throughout Colorado.

We finally made some moves, and ended up at a foundation spot with huge DIY potential.

First a little shoot with Fuzz and Jack…

Someone pulled this gross looking couch out of a weird dumpster type enclosure, and dragged it over to the spot. I wanted to get some photos of people skating it since it looked so awesome and disgusting…DSC_0416_edit_resized DSC_0417_edit_resized DSC_0420_edit_resized

(While everyone else skates over the couch going down, Ro skates it going up)DSC_0422_edit_resized DSC_0423_edit_resized DSC_0429_edit_resized DSC_0430_edit_resized DSC_0431_edit_resized DSC_0432_edit_resized DSC_0436_edit_resized DSC_0441_edit_resized DSC_0442_edit_resized DSC_0443_edit_resized DSC_0445_edit_resized DSC_0450_edit_resized

gotta love Glen’s BGPs. Always can count on them. DSC_0452_edit_resized DSC_0453_edit_resized DSC_0454_edit_resized DSC_0461_edit_resized DSC_0462_edit_resized DSC_0464_edit_resized DSC_0468_edit_resized DSC_0472_edit_resized DSC_0476_edit_resized DSC_0477_edit_resized DSC_0478_edit_resized DSC_0483_edit_resizedyea Glen!

And that’s that. I struggled with hurricane on this ledge for probably an hour and a half because Fuzz said he’d give me his new Market coozie if I did it. In the end I’m not sure that I quite deserved the coozie (although there were two that were basically it), but as soon Blaine said he’d take it instead, I scooped up my prize. After this we said goodbye to about half the crew and then got some food at the Dark Horse. Yet another awesome skate day.

Fort Collins with the Lowcard CrownVic

Just like every trip to Fort Collins, this day was SO much fun. In general, I’ve been slacking on taking photos, so I might actually have to write a little to explain what’s been going on. My semester ended Friday, May 10th, and it turned my weekdays into 14-15 hour works days towards the end. But once I turned in my 75 page final project (after taking a 7-hour final for the same class), I was done. Odessa and I did happy hour in North Boulder, visited her garden plot, played one of the best dart games ever, and met up with a crew, including Freddy visiting from SF at the Waterloo.

The weekend already was off to a good start when Jack and I met up with Fuzz, Freddy, John, and Darrin at Crisis, and made our way to the new Thornton park for a super kook-filled session. After some food, we had a short Northglenn session before heading to Fuzz and Leslie’s for a night of BBQ, cornhole, and backyard camping. When we got there, the Lowcard crown vic had arrived, with Magnethead, Dan Nazzareta, and Cousins aka Avocado Man. Super fun night.

So that brings us to Sunday and the Fort Collins adventure. Sleeping in a tent doesn’t usually encourage sleeping in too late, and I’m pretty sure we were on the road by 9am, with only a quick stop at Jus Burritos for breakfast. We met up with Taylor, our guide for the day, at the newest of the 5 parks in Fort Collins, Water Way. For the most part, I skated the whole time, but snapped just a couple photos…

After Water Way, Taylor took us to the full pipes. My first time there…DSC_0132_edit_resized DSC_0134_edit_resized DSC_0144_edit_resized DSC_0146_edit_resized DSC_0149_edit_resized DSC_0150_edit_resized DSC_0152_edit_resized

Next up was Spring Canyon, where I finally sat back and took photos instead of skating. The Fort crew definitely knows how to shred a bowl…DSC_0156_edit_resized DSC_0158_edit_resized DSC_0159_edit_resized DSC_0160_edit_resized DSC_0161_edit_resized DSC_0168_edit_resized DSC_0170_edit_resized DSC_0173_edit_resized DSC_0176_edit_resized DSC_0177_edit_resized DSC_0179_edit_resized DSC_0180_edit_resized DSC_0185_edit_resized DSC_0187_edit_resized

We took a break to visit Market, eat lunch, and then a session went down on this front porch quarter pipe…DSC_0188_edit_resized DSC_0189_edit_resized DSC_0190_edit_resized DSC_0194_edit_resized DSC_0196_edit_resized DSC_0197_edit_resized DSC_0198_edit_resized DSC_0199_edit_resized DSC_0201_edit_resized DSC_0203_edit_resized DSC_0207_edit_resized DSC_0213_edit_resized DSC_0217_edit_resized DSC_0219_edit_resized DSC_0229_edit_resized DSC_0230_edit_resized DSC_0232_edit_resized DSC_0239_edit_resized DSC_0240_edit_resized DSC_0243_edit_resized DSC_0245_edit_resized DSC_0249_edit_resized DSC_0251_edit_resized DSC_0254_edit_resized DSC_0256_edit_resized DSC_0257_edit_resized DSC_0259_edit_resized

And that’s when we left the house decided to be the worst/dirtiest skate house ever. Congrats guys! We made our way to Edora after that, and then finally to Northside to skate until the sun went down. I stopped taking photos and just skated, so no more images to show. Such an awesome day. We camped in Fuzz’s backyard again this night, and then had another amazing day the following day, with a long session at Roxborough and a night session at Arvada. So rad! Thanks to everyone involved for making it such an awesome weekend!

Almost spring skate sessions

The first set of photos is actually just a Sunday lurk mission. Skating was our intention, but it was crazy windy and Jack and I aren’t big fans of the wind. So we went on a mission to find wonderful spots that Jason had described to us. And took a lovely little walk in the process…colorful colorado

The ditch turned out to be quite an interesting adventure. Maybe skate it some day? I have a feeling Jack will be on that.

The next session was on warm Wednesday a few days after the lurking in the ditch. I met up with Jack and crew in Longmont and watched Cameron and Josh skate a flat gap. Afterwards I played around the 2 flat 2 at the spot, and then Jack and I had a short session at the Longmont ditch. So rad…

Despite how nice and warm that Wednesday was, it was snowing by the weekend. Oh, Colorado weather. Even though it was snowing and freezing cold and terrible weather for skating, Glen said he was skating a parking garage with Neil and Brett and Jack convinced me to come skate. It was fun (besides my frustration fits for the day) and wan’t too bitter cold in the garage.

The very next day was warm and completely dry (typical Colorado) and I had the honor of tagging along with some of the Meta crew for awhile. I stuck to taking photos while Jack and Josh skated the spots, Cameron filmed, and Sean chilled…

The following Friday, Jack and i talked about going somewhere new and different than the usual places. So we ended up driving out to Ft. Morgan to skate a metal mini ramp at the park and then this awesome spot…

DSC_0470_edit_resized DSC_0477_edit_resized

After this fun spot in Ft Morgan we drove back past the disgusting smelling sugar factory and two depressing feedlots with endless black and white cows filling the air with waves of cow shit odors, saw the sky glaring red from a wild fire in the distance, and eventually made our way to Brighton, where we stumbled upon the best street pole jam imaginable. Jack took some photos of me and filmed one, and then we headed to Crisis to celebrate our long day.

And the last session for this post was from just a few days ago on Wednesday. I had a midterm the next day so didn’t want to leave Boulder, but it was supposed to be the last nice day before an early spring snow storm. So Jack and I headed to this spot…

DSC_0488_edit_resized DSC_0492_edit_resized DSC_0502_edit_resizedAfter Jack took some photos of my backside ollies, I started trying to learn hurricanes. Jack joined in, crushing some switch hurricanes. Fun times…

And that’s all! For more photos of me actually skating (I swear I’m not always behind the camera) you gotta check out Jack’s blog.

Birds and sunset, Coco’s visit, skating Boulder spots, Wallace and Grom’s Birthday, Pueblo trip

Sometimes I bring my camera to skate sessions thinking I might take some skate photos. Instead, I actually skate the whole time and only pull my camera out for something like this…DSC_0017_edit_resized DSC_0018_edit_resized DSC_0019_edit_resized DSC_0021_edit_resized DSC_0023_edit_resized

Jack and I have had some short Boulder skate sessions before the sun goes down (can’t wait for daylight savings to be over). Here’s some photos of Jack…

Poor kitties. They hated every minute of this… but 7 years! Getting old (sort of).

Last weekend I headed down to Pueblo with the Nullers to avoid the snow up here in Northern Colorado. It was a long, super fun day. I took a few photos…

A few skate sessions in late November

Here’s three days of skate sessions to begin my attempt at catching this blog up to speed…

Starting with a session in downtown Denver with Glen, Skelly and Mike.

Skelly’s line went like this:

Pretty awesome! Then there was this dude…

This session happened to be the same day as the Pretty Sweet premier. I took a few photos in the theater before the no-cell phone ban began…

The day before Thanksgiving it was seriously 80 degrees, sunny and beautiful. I met up with Ashlyn and friends for a bit and went to this spot…

Of course this happened:

Then on the Saturday (or Sunday?) after Thanksgiving it was down to about 25-30 degrees. But I braved the cold to have a little Southern Hills session with Glen, Ollie and Bernie.

Glen and Ollie worked on a father-son line…

… until Ollie decided Glen was taking too long to land his tricks, that is. Ha.

crew pic

Saturday session in mid November TF+

We started the day at Dave Fuller’s ramp in Longmont. A decent-sized crew…

Then we went to check out this spot… pretty cool, but we got kicked out immediately…

So we moved on to another spot. I got really distracted by the sky divers though..

Such an awesome crew, good day. Thanks dudes!

Second half of October. skating, pumpkins, pho, video premier, water park

On a Saturday in mid October, Glen and I made our way to campus to skate around. Before we got moving, though, I had him take some photos of me using the new skateboard racks outside of the ITLL, the building I work in. The building is trying to prevent students from having skateboards in the building (especially long boards) due to ADA reasons. Not too many students are aware of the racks or know how to use them – hence the photos. This one was actually used for a sign that’s up now:

Yup. I’ll have to take a picture of the end result. The racks are kinda cool, though, you just slide your board in between the bars, then put a lock between the upper and lower rings. Works perfectly unless someone has a skate tool to take your trucks off with.

Then Glen and I took on kickflipping the tiniest (yet still “gnarly” – ha!) gap ever…

(ouch)

We moved on from that spot, and met up with Jack, Neil, Blake and Alec.

Jack has some beautiful-looking front noses…

(there might be one more popping up on the null site…)

That night Brian and Denise had a pumpkin carving party (a few photos will appear in an upcoming cell phone dump post). I meant to carve both sides of my pumpkin (with a combination of Jack’s and my drawing skills) but only did one in the end. Odessa had this awesome cat (I think?) on her pumpkin from a different pumpkin carving party. Unfortunately I didn’t take a photo of them intact, only after Peter (our pumpkin-eating squirrel) chowed down on them, well, mostly on Odessa’s.

(oh yea, that’s Peter!)

One Saturday, Jack and I made our second stop along our mission to try ever pho place around. This time it was Black Pepper Pho. I was so excited that I forgot to take photos until I was almost done with this deliciousness.

Thanks Jack!! You rule. (And hope this wasn’t the source of your food poisoning.)

Then next day I met up with Connor and Blaine to skate in Denver, and then later we met up with Glen, Jason, and Fuzz. Jason picked this spot…

Glen, Fuzz, Jason, Dave Fuller, Chris Sessions and I went to see the Bones Brigade documentary at the Esquire in Denver…

Another night, before bowling, Jack and I were on a hunt for a spot to take a photo of the moon. It was huge and orange… and just looked so cool. So we found the highest point, and by then the moon was blocked by clouds…

So instead, we discovered a water park…

Always up for an adventure.
