Awkward…

So yes, I’m writing another post. For two reasons: (1) I am currently obsessed with this blog since I just began about 3 days ago and I think this is my 7th post, and (2) I have no life. But a few things come to mind.

(1) First of all, I hate to vent right after restorative yoga, since really the whole point seems to be to let go all negative energy and relax, but I have a bit of an issue. Actually it really doesn’t bother me so much right now, because I have already paid for a month pass to yoga, but still I think this needs to be addressed. This is only the second time that I’ve gone to restorative yoga, but both today and three weeks ago, the instructor cut the hour and a half class down to one hour. Last time I had paid my $15 for the class and the instructor did not actually mention that the class had been shortened to one hour until she finished. She mentioned that the class would resume at an hour and a half the next week. Today she said the same thing and actually insisted that the class was rarely shortened to one hour. Hmmm. Well I find it quite unfair for people to unknowingly pay $15 for a class and only receive 2/3 of the class. I felt almost guilty for thinking these things while I was supposed to be releasing negative thoughts and tension, but oh well…

(2) I came home and the only parking spot I could find was directly behind my roommate’s car and it was a very tight spot. So of course I parked in it. It was the kind of parking situation that you make you wonder what asshole had parked on you in so tight. Awkward. So as I saw her in the house I toldl her, and of course she was right on her way out. Oops.

Killing time…

So I just got home from my second professional development day in a row. I am so lazy! There was really nothing structured at all today, and so of course, I barely got anything accomplished. First of all, one thing I did not mention last night was that after I came home with a buzz around 11:30pm , I still had not finished my grade “bubble” sheets which were technically due yesterday at 3:30pm. I know I should have done them Wednesday when we had the day off or even last night, but I figured that there wasn’t much I had to so I would do it this morning. So even though I was up drinking and didn’t go to bed until around 12:30/1:00am, I got up around 6am and got in the shower. I actually have some breakfast food at home (impressive for me) but I still left the house to grab something from starbucks because I was too weirded out that my roommate’s mom and sister were trying to sleep on the couches. I know that I’m being completely crazy, but I am crazy, so what can I say. So instead of eating some cereal, having juice and tea at home, I drove to starbucks and spent $6 on an americano (or whatever its called) and 2 croissants (as if one wasn’t enough). Sometimes I know I’m doing things that are so ridiculous, but I just can’t help it.

So I make it school early; my car is one of the first in the parking lot. This is actually completely normal for me, just not on pd days. My plan was to get up to my room, set up my laptop, get on the website engrade that I have been using for my grades, finishing bubbling in the grades and hand them in asap. Well here is when Murphy’s Law comes to bite me in the ass. You know the law, whatever can go wrong, will go wrong? Well it did and it always does. I turned on my computer, and guess what? No internet. Of course. So I was in school at probably 7:30am twittling my thumbs. Last quarter engrade was completely down the couple days I was working on my bubble sheets and I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown. And here I am again, at the end of the quarter, unable to access my grades. Ugh. Fortunately, my administrator wasn’t about to come after me because he needs the internet to use the program to scan and process all the grade sheets. So I wasn’t in trouble… just tired and unmotivated to do any other work.

Well, the internet did come back on and I got my grades done. The remember of the day I really did waste away. Between drinking last night, drinking a coffee this morning, and drinking a full nalgene of water, I had to go to the bathroom about every 30 minutes, which was a major distraction. I always managed to distract my friend who teaches down the hall from me for at least 2/3 of the day. I just could NOT get motivated. But I did relearn some statistics, including some applications of normal distribution and binomial distribution while some of my colleagues worked on problems they are doing for a class. FUN :) I really love learning math, and I don’t care what a nerd that makes me.

I think the highlight of my day so far was that when I went to subway, I convinced the person waiting on me to toast my tuna sub with the tuna and cheese on it, making it a tuna melt. Yum. Although I have to admit I now feel a little sick from it. So now I’m home and about to get ready for some restorative yoga.

I’m planning to do some painting tonight. I took photos of some of my artwork from the two sketchpads that took me from high school to grad school . There is an example below, but the whole collection can be found at www.flickr.com/carleigh_samson

After a night of mayhem…

Well it’s just about midnight and I may have drank a bit too much. Then again, maybe not. This week has been very relaxed at work. We had school Monday and part of Tuesday, a day off Wednesday, and then a professional development day today and another one tomorrow. I have managed to miss every pd day this year up until today, but I finally made it to one today and it really wasn’t so bad. Everything we did was relevant to my teaching since I’m working with students on their Bridge Projects (projects they can pass instead of passing the state-required standardized tests) and the day actually seemed to by quickly. And they fed us lunch! (very important)
After I got home from my pd day I went to physical therapy. I’ve been going since the Monday before Thanksgiving for my elbow. I dislocated it in the bowl at Charmcity and broke little tiny chips off as well. (picture below) I really love physical therapy; it’s been so awesome to see constant results based on my therapy. But today my therapist surprised me with some good (and sorta sad) news that I have “graduated” physical therapy and I’m set free! I have to admit that I’m going to miss it…

Later I went and hit up the pit ramp again with some friends. Fucking awesome. I sucked it up and made myself do some blunt transfers over the spine and even though they’re still sketchy, I had it everytime. Oh yeah and 50-50 to feeble, oh yea! Besides that it was a good time, with a good vibe and some good people and a lot of beer drinking. Ah, I love having fun.

Pit Ramp

So there’s a new ramp in Baltimore, the pit ramp. I went there for the first time tonight and it was pretty sick. It was an adventure finding this place; I wish I had photos of the warehouse complex we drove through. It was dark, rainy, icy, and overall sketchy! But we drove around trying to find Geoff’s car, and once we were there, the adventure was well worth it.

It always takes me a minute to get acclimated to a new mini ramp, but it started feeling very comfortable very quickly. The spine is crazy, with only one coping instead of the double coping, and since I’m a little nervous on spines anyways, I left that challenge for another day. Overall it was a chill session and I just snapped a few photos on the way out to have something to document tonight’s adventure…

Snow Day

Finally! A snow day.

I woke up at around 5am to check the news and there was nothing about Baltimore City. I was so disappointed. I went back to bed and woke up at around 5:40. I was about to get right in the shower, but then I decided to check the news one more time. And there it was, Baltimore City schools were closed.
Since I went to bed so early last night just in case there was school, I was relatively awake. I stayed on the computer and checked the yoga schedule, figuring I would make it yoga in the morning since I had the day off. On the schedule, the midtown and towson classes had been cancelled, but it appeared that fells point still was holding a 7am rise and shine yoga class. So I got myself ready and trekked out into the winter wonderland outside.
Wow. It was ICY out. I slid down the sidewalk, pausing to take some photos, while in the meantime dropping everything I had in my hands all over the ice. I scraped the ice off my car and made it down to fells point, only to discover that, of course, charm city yoga was closed. Ugh. I should have seen that coming as soon as I set foot on the icy sidewalks of Baltimore City.

So instead I went by the grocery store, went home and had a great breakfast.

Day 1

Finally, I set up my blog! Hooray.

Nothing terribly fabulous going on, except I’m so excited that it finally snowed. I have to admit I was disappointed when I first woke up this morning by the lack of serious snowfall, but after leaving work two hours early and having the possibility of work of tomorrow, I really can’t complain. During work, I was wrapped up in proving triangles congruent and practicing the intracacies of simplifying monomials, only to take to a break to go out to subway due to my weak will power.

After work I hit up the skatepark, which was surprisingly empty on a day when almost every kid had the day off from school. After a few cruises around the bowl, some attempts at nollying into the bank and trying to get back some tricks I had a year ago, I called it a day. It was a good relaxing sessions, nonetheless.

More importantly, I’m psyched because my friend and sponsor Chris Dyer with Positive Creation clothing is working on a documentary and wants to include some tricks from his skate team. So my mission now is to find some good footy for his documentary…
