Jamaica Pond, Boston, Mass.

Yesterday I drove up to Boston to visit my friend Kat. We went to both high school and university together, and it’s awesome that I still am able to see her about once a year. Over the course of the trip, I discovered (or remembered) a few things…
1. Driving in Rhode Island is awesome sometimes. I’m not the only person driving 90mph in a 55mph zone on 95, and sometimes even get passed.
2. Boston drivers are the absolute WORST drivers in the country. They show utter disregard for anything and anyone around them, especially rules and laws governing how to drive. And they honk a lot. But since driving completely recklessly and crazy is the norm, it can also be a lot of fun to drive in Boston as long as you keep the right mindset.
3. The Gallows has Montreal-style poutine with a twist that is delicious, and their roasted duck main is possibly the most amazing thing I have ever eaten.
4. Jamaica Pond is the shit…

Ocean House visit

My brother Clay is awesome. He works at the Ocean House now, but during the time it was being rebuilt, he worked as a construction engineer for the company that was rebuilding this classic Rhode Island landmark. I honestly had never been there before, so I was super impressed by the elegantly constructed hotel. Good work Clay!

Sunset in Watch Hill

Ama, Aurelia and I traveled down to Watch Hill to get a few sunset photos over the ocean. The clouds were thick, preventing a sky full of colors, but we caught the sun as it dipped below the clouds just before it slipped out of view…

an Endless Summer sunset, even in the middle of the winter.

Ticket Tuesday. round 2.

The night began and Chen’s and then moved down to Matunuck. I only have pre-Mist photos… good times with good people…
The Mist was a blast – epic dance sessions and refreshing (and freezing) breaks on the back deck with the ocean under our feet. Between a cloudy sky, the stars were so bright. I love the seeing the sky and the stars over the ocean…

Recovered Crackberry photos

The last of my crackberry photos… since last week I dropped my phone and broke it after a night of mayhem. So this are the missing photos from last week’s ticket madness at the Ocean Mist and Joyce’s pub.

And with this post, there will be no new crackberry photos. I am looking for a small camera to compliment my Nikon photos… so we’ll see what happens.

Snow Day!

After a late breakfast, we found some winter gear throughout the house and went to play in the snow. I’m not sure what happened to our plans to go sledding… I guess the fact that there aren’t any hills on the farm and our unplowed driveway was practically impossible to get down changed those plans. Instead, we entertained ourselves in the yard…

Chip and Seth – and their “igloo fort” – the idea was still being conceived at this point…

and then they chose to flatten it.

After playtime was over, we had some hot cocoa (classic) and my friends Ama and Aurelia came over to visit. I was starting to get some crazy cabin fever since I hadn’t left the farm in a few days, but luckily Sara said she was heading over to East Greenwich with her sister Kendal for some drinks, and it didn’t take any work at all to convince Seth and Chip to come with. So we trekked out into the snow. Honestly, the only places covered in snow were our driveway and our street, but it was insane. We slid and fishtailed all over the place, and drove full speed through 4-foot high snow drifts. We even had to get out and push the car at one point. What an adventure…

Me and Sara. I’ll miss you gullfriend!
It started to get a little late, and after a good night, I convince my brothers to head home to the hopes of some Kingston Pizza. Unfortunately, we were denied – apparently they’re only open til 2am certain days (especially not when URI is on vaction), so we settled for some mac and cheese once we were home. Another day… gotta have KP before I leave town!

Day after Christmas blizzard – West Kingston-style

I heard rumors that there would be a blizzard today… but it’s Rhode Island. I never take snow warnings here too seriously. But surprisingly the snow started early and continued throughout the day. I woke up to this sight…

Personally, I love snow. And I’m on vacation and not supposed to be skating or really walking too much because of my foot, so I have nothing to worry about or be pissed off about. So let it snow! The only disappointment is that the snow almost completely cancelled our traditional post-Christmas Pats party, but luckily a few brave souls made it over to watch the game with us. And actually, since we all got snowed in, it turned into an all day and night party equipped with tons of leftover food and booze. Perfect.
game time…

The game wasn’t even close. Tom Brady and the Pats dominated. After the game, we moved onto “Gansettopoly”, a present my mom got for Christmas.

The rest of the night was filled with cards, movies, drinks, stories, etc. Liz and I did make an epic trip out into the snow. I couldn’t believe how hard it was coming down… so much so that’s it’s hard to see through it in some of these pictures…

So wild! Thanks to Liz, George, Andy and Charlotte for venturing out into the white-out to spend a full day and night on the farm. And hopefully tomorrow will be filled with more turkey and roast beef sliders and playing in the foot or so of snow…

Christmas on the farm 2010

first, stockings…

i got pepper spray! ha, thanks santa.
then “real” presents…
hyped.

next up, dinner prep…

guests arrive.

grandpa chet. less than a month from his 93rd birthday!

then the “swamp” yankee swap. none of these photos really illustrate the overwhelming amount of noise from every familiar member screaming and laughing and the true sense of chaos that occurs at most family holidays. this one was particularly over the top. every member of my mom’s side of the family was present (except for 2 of my cousins…missed you katie and kristen), and 4 generations of our family participated in this drama…

LOVE YOU ALL! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
