KOTC 2011. Film photos

I pulled out the Olympus Friday morning/afternoon at the Longmont park. We were in the middle of a bump to ledge session…

Bernie

A few of Max…

This photo cracks me up. Seriously looks like Max is stomping his board on the ledge.

Glen is always stoked.

I was frustrated and retired my board to resting on a ledge.

Moving on to the industrial bank…

Derek. pop shuv. (side note: this was the very first photo I saw from the olympus… pretty wild.)

Bernie and Derek. Between tries.

A mistake? Find the beer in the photo… or Jack.

Derek. bigspin photo. not my finest.

Bernie. working at his own spot. Also not a great photo, but it’s film, so I feel the need to post it anyways.

Derek

Then off to the Longmont ditch…Dean Barnes. 5050

Velveeta Underground

Jack. hmm. no idea.

Brian.

I think trying to use the flash with this camera actually made these photos come out worse. Lesson learned. Moving forward.

Saturday, starting at Louisville park…

sorry blake, i missed the ones you were grinding!

Max. (probably the best result from the olympus so far)

one more.

287 ditch

3-tiered ditch…

Bank spot at the tech center…Jack. ollie in I believe.

Jack. kickflip in. (I was really hoping this photo would come out awesome. Not the case. No more using the flash… whatever it does is no good.)

Velveeta Underground!

And that wraps up all the photos I took during this year’s KOTC. (Glen – wtf? I guess I was skating whenever you were skating? I owe you.) Can’t wait til next year! Thanks again to Rich and John Doe Zine. Velveeta Underground!

First Olympus film photos

When I was home in RI a few months ago, I snagged an old camera that was sitting around my parent’s house. It has been quite a challenge since then. The first roll of film I had no problem loading, but it wasn’t until the second roll that I learned how to properly rewind the film. As a result, I lost the majority of the photos… but came out with a few from a session back in early July at 18th and Welton.

Guess whose board?

crew photo

Glen. So stoked.

Blaine

I didn’t even recognize this photo at first, but Jack did. He was trying a wallride but clearly (well, not clearly at all) my timing… and everything else… was a little off.

So, not too shabby. I was hoping the mold on the lens would produce some more interesting results, but I guess I should be happy it didn’t. Hopefully I’ll have more photos from this camera… if I can figure out why the camera is completely locked up right now.

An outing with Julian Bleecker

Julian flew into Denver on Saturday and was on his way to Breckenridge. Before he headed into the mountains, I met up with him for a little skate/photo mission. And today I was ecstatic to see he posted about the adventure. So, I figured I’d write my own little post and steal his photos from his post – hope you don’t mind Julian!

I wasn’t really sure where to meet up and wasn’t sure how I was feeling in terms of skating. I was so insanely sore after KOTC ended that I hadn’t skated all week. Best solution… spots where I don’t have to ollie. Ha. Fuzz suggested a bank to wall in an alley, so that was spot number one. I told Julian to meet me at Denver park, cause it’s a pretty easy place to find. In the end, I met up with him and his wife at a restaurant close by. The happy hour deal was two-for-one beers, and I think the two pints I drank ended up being the reason I landed this wallride…

So psyched. I landed one, but tried quite a few. I left the spot dripping in blood and so proud of myself. A really good feeling. And it seemed appropriate for an ice cream break.

After that, we headed to 18th and Welton. Before I snapped the tail off my board, I did get a few tricks and another awesome photo…

Super big thanks to Julian. I don’t know if I would have done that wallride if he hadn’t told me he saw it going down… far before I thought I’d be able to pull it off. Definitely check out his post and his site http://helloskatergirl.com/.

Rocky Horror Picture Show. Friday night fun.

Before Friday I had never been to Rocky Horror Picture Show, never even seen the movie. I remember being intrigued as a kid, and then my curiosity was again piqued when I read a book back in December called The Perks of Being a Wallflower. In the book, the kids went every week, I think, and were the live performers while the movie played. So when Odessa mentioned she was going with a few other ladies I was sold.

And so the adventure began. Costumes were essential. Drinks. And photos. Not sure if it was appropriate to be taking photos or not, but here are the few I snuck in during the night. Kinda crappy, but they give a slight indication of the wildness. But in reality I didn’t really capture any of the most wild outfits or actions taking place during the night… you’ll have to use your imagination. Starting with meeting at Jane’s house and then to the theater in Denver…

And that’s that. Seriously the photos really only show a slight glimpse. Great time, can’t wait to go back and not be marked as a “virgin”.

KOTC 2011. Day 3 (Boulder and Brighton)

I really didn’t take too many photos on the last day. I was pretty tired, sore, out of it… I was amazed I had the energy to skate when I did. As for taking photos… didn’t really happen. So I’ll just be less selective and basically post all the photos from Sunday…

Our first stop was Boulder Park. My bushings were completely cracked and actually had come over the end of the bolt on my kingpin… so basically my front truck was just flopping around. The night before I was super motivated to land my line so I had just ignored it, but on Sunday, being sore and tired and generally uncomfortable, there was no way I was skating on it. So I chilled outside the park.

Back on the bus. Stop at Crisis (so I could switch my bushings and whatever else) and then off to Brighton.

Jack and Glen

Glen

Matt, Neil, Jack

Then new Brighton park was our first stop and where I snapped my last photo…

Derek. blunt fakie. Brian looking on, waiting for his turn.

After this, I stuck to skating my favorite bump to bar. And whatdahyaknow… I landed some tricks, some that I apparently wasn’t even trying. Ha. Jussss kiddin’.

Then off to the old Brighton park for the finale shindig. I worked on scoring some points and then once everyone seemed to slow down on skating, I finally took some runs on the mini… one almost being the best run ever. For me.

Well, another fantastic weekend. Super big thanks to Rich from John Doe Zine and everyone else that took part in this year’s KOTC. Already looking forward to next year’s mountain adventure.

KOTC 2011. Day 2 (Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield)

Woke up on the concrete floor of Crisis. Fun fun. Time to get rolling. First spot, Louisville park…One of the challenges was to do this rainbow rail. It was a no go.

this guy kept circling over head. clearly he was waiting for some action.

I tried to get Brian doing his trick with the paparazzi in the photo. Glen was an added bonus.

We did handle the “getting pulled by a dog on a longboard” challenge. (Jack photo)

Some other challenges went down, and when I develop the film from my other cameras, I’ll see if any photos came out. We ended up back at Crisis and then at the 287 ditch (a Carleigh’s Blog challenge!!)Garrett

Max… just posing for my poorly set camera. ha.

Gettin’ the boot

Keeping with the ditches, up next, 3-tiered ditch…

Velvetta Underground. Piling out of the bus.

Lazer! Before he left us.

Apparently there is a way to drive to the ditch without having to walk a half mile to it. We chose the longer route.

We made it there… and surprise! filled with water. Jack

Brian set on the “ride through the water” challenge. feelin it out.

The bottom of the ditch was covered in a slippery film that Brian tried to scrape off.

Jack gave him the thumbs up

Brian, just about ready

rushing water

After all this build up, Brian went for it…Success!!! And still a crash landing.

Stoked.

back on the bus

Gabe. Our professional driver for the day.

Where next… Louisville tech center bank spot.

what to do with the dumpster…hmm

Jack. warmup ollie

Jack boardslide

Then to yet another ditch spot…

Lazer!

Tough guys. Gabe and Bernie

Not sure what it was with this spot, but it was harder to skate than it looked. Jack turned out to be the only one to come through with an ollie.

After this spot we got back on the bus and drove back to Broomfield. A quick stop at Crisis and then we skated the park til the lights when off. I’m not sure what everyone else was doing… I was so psyched that I got the pole jam and the 6-stair in a line that I spent the whole night working on pole jam/kickflip down the 6. Then 3 margaritas, Lazer’s going away party, another late night with the quatro locos and sleeping on the floor.

KOTC 2011. Day 1 (Longmont and Crisis)

Boulder to Longmont.

Starting at the Longmont park, then the industrial bank…

Max, Derek, Jack

Bernie. mid battle.

Derek. 2 tricks down, chill time.

Next up, Longmont ditch…

Brian, Jam on attack

Superman gap up next. Keep an eye on the trees and their leaves/branches in these photos. They give a slight idea of just how windy it was. Oh and it was raining as well…

Jack. starting with an ollie.

late shuv.

back 180

Next a school visit. Lots and lots of skating, and to close the session…

Brian. caveman boardslide.

That night we spent the night at Crisis. There was one last challenge we toyed around with…

… but nothing went down. Just a wonderful rendition of “Happy Birthday”.

Then just a few more hours of drinking, hanging, etc, and and the arrival of the Wyoming team. Time for sleep on a concrete floor!

KOTC 2011. Warmup and first hour (Boulder)

It’s time. KOTC 2011. Seriously always the best. I admit last year may never ever be topped, but this year was yet again another amazing adventure. I didn’t take quite as many photos this time around, but still so hyped on what I did take. So here we go…

This year we were total jocks. Period. Going by the name Velvetta Underground, we started warming up around 9 or 10 pm Thursday night so that we were ready to crush some challenges as soon as the clock stuck 12 midnight. Beginning at St. Julien in Boulder…

Derek, showing some love

Jack ollying over the rail.

It was interesting taking this photo… I actually couldn’t see a thing. I just took the photo based on the noises I heard. This one was a little late, the other a little early. But a fun little photo exercise. Maybe one more try and I would have had the timing right…

Max, posing.

Derek and Max, just hanging out

Jack, crate skatin

Next spot…Brett

Max

From what I remember, the rest of the night was cruising downtown Boulder, a hill bomb, and a stair session at Southern Hills. And a rowdy ride home.

Cell phone photo dump

It’s that time again… whatever random cell phone photos I have since the last time. Beginning on the night of July 30th…

At Bright Eyes (some undecipherable pictures)…

A few weeks ago I got really into drawing frogs…

Rockies game night

Chip called me up and asked me if I wanted to go to a Rockies game. For a minute I was on the fence… but he promised to buy my ticket and his friend Willy said he would buy me a beer. Deal. And it was a blast…

The last photo was taken by an old dude who joked about hitting us with his oxygen tank. He was awesome. Oh and the Rockies won with some crazy score like 11-3 or something like that. Rad.
